About San Carlos United Methodist Church

San Carlos United Methodist Church exists to make disciples of Jesus for the sake of transforming the world, and they live out this mission by enthusiastically serving and engaging with the San Diego community in a variety of ways. The church operates The Good Neighbor Center, an emergency food ministry, as well as Storefront, an shelter for runaway youth. They also host a prison ministry at R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Southeast San Diego, providing discipleship and homemade cookies to the inmates. In addition to these ministries, the members of San Carlos United Methodist volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Feeding America, and Operation Gratitude, a group that writes letters and sends handcrafted scarves to deployed military servicemen and women. With all of this community outreach, San Carlos United Methodist still makes teaching and serving the members of their congregation a priority by providing Sunday worship services and opportunities to fellowship throughout the week. San Carlos United Methodist is a church deeply committed to the San Diego community and actively engaged in sharing their Christian faith with others by living out their calling to transform the world.

The Project

Not only does San Carlos United Methodist care for their community, they also care for their environment. The church established the San Carlos Community Garden in collaboration with the Springall Academy and other community organizations in order to encourage knowledge of healthy living and stewardship of the earth. Another of the many ways San Carlos sought to live out their world-transforming mission and displayed their commitment to the environment was by switching to solar energy. Through a partnership with CollectiveSun, the church was able to fund the installation of environmentally-friendly solar panels which reduced both the cost of operating their church facility and their footprint on the environment. This solar installation project undertaken with the help of CollectiveSun serves as yet another example of the numerous ways that San Carlos United Methodist Church seeks to make the city of San Diego and the world a better place.
